Astrid and James’s quest for a quiet night alone goes hilariously off the rails in the second of two new episodes of Children Ruin Everything airing this week. In “Sex,” which follows “Emergencies” at 9:30 PM ET on The CW, the couple’s carefully laid plans for some adult time are upended by a lie that quickly spins out of control.
The episode begins with a simple premise: Astrid and James, played by Meaghan Rath and Aaron Abrams, persuade their friend Nisha to take the kids for the night. With the house to themselves, they are finally free to reconnect without the usual interruptions of parenthood. However, their plan hits a snag when a small fib they tell to secure their night off begins to grow, creating a series of unexpected complications.
Written by Andrew De Angelis and directed by Allison Johnston, the episode explores the challenges of maintaining intimacy in a relationship once children enter the picture. The show finds comedy in the couple’s increasingly desperate attempts to salvage their romantic evening as their lie leads to a cascade of misunderstandings.
Children Ruin Everything airs Wednesdays at 9:30 PM ET on The CW.
