Chris McCausland Stuns in Debut Cha Cha on Strictly Come Dancing

Strictly Come Dancing

Chris McCausland made an inspiring debut on Strictly Come Dancing, performing the Cha Cha with his professional partner, Dianne Buswell, to Twist and Shout by The Beatles. McCausland, who is blind, not only completed the routine with confidence but also pulled off impressive lifts and moves, receiving a standing ovation from the audience. Lead judge Shirley Ballas even joined the applause, clearly moved by his effort.

While judge Craig Revel Horwood had some technical critiques regarding posture and leg placements, Motsi Mabuse and Ballas disagreed, praising McCausland for his energy and joy. Mabuse noted that he gave everything to the performance without showing nerves, and Ballas expressed her surprise and emotion, calling the routine “fabulous.” Anton Du Beke added that it was one of the most extraordinary performances he’d ever witnessed, particularly commending McCausland’s execution of a difficult lift.

Though McCausland’s score of 23 left room for improvement, his first-week performance highlighted his determination and courage. McCausland later shared the challenges of performing without being able to rely on sound cues, highlighting the unique nature of his experience. Despite these obstacles, Buswell remains focused on guiding him through the process, calling their partnership an opportunity to elevate her teaching.
