Louise Redknapp Hosts Star-Studded “Christmas Carols on ITV” (ITV1, Tuesday, December 24, 2024)

Royal Carols

For those who prefer their Christmas Eve a bit more traditional, ITV1 is serving up a helping of “Christmas Carols,” hosted this year by Louise Redknapp. Broadcasting live from St. Elisabeth’s Church in Greater Manchester, the special aims to offer a blend of time-honoured carols and contemporary performances.

Redknapp will preside over a lineup of musical guests that, on paper at least, looks rather eclectic. Composer Debbie Wiseman brings a touch of classical gravitas, while soul singer Mica Paris will undoubtedly add some powerhouse vocals to the mix. Then there’s Chesney Hawkes, forever etched in our memories as the one and only “The One and Only,” who presumably will offer a more pop-infused take on the Christmas spirit. Rounding out the bill are soprano Carly Paoli, “Coronation Street” star Tanisha Gorey, and Brit Award-winner Russell Watson. Oh, and the D-Day Darlings will be there too, because apparently no Christmas celebration is complete without a dose of wartime nostalgia.

It’s a lineup that’s likely to offer something for everyone, or perhaps leave everyone mildly perplexed, depending on your musical tastes. But that’s part of the charm of these Christmas specials, isn’t it? The slightly odd mix of performers, the festive atmosphere, the communal singing – it’s all part of the holiday tradition. So, if you’re looking for some musical merriment to round out your Christmas Eve, tune in to ITV1 at 11:30 PM and let Louise Redknapp and company serenade you into Christmas Day.
