We all know the holidays are basically an excuse to eat cookies until we can’t button our pants. And what better way to celebrate this sacred tradition than with the Food Network’s “Christmas Cookie Challenge”? This week’s episode, “Christmas Feast,” seems determined to push the boundaries of what constitutes a “cookie” – and frankly, that’s fine by me.
Forget gingerbread men and sugar plums. This time, our intrepid bakers are tasked with whipping up a North Pole Christmas dinner…made entirely of cookies. Yes, you read that right. “Imposter” cookies disguised as savory dishes will grace Santa’s table, which raises some important questions. Can a cookie convincingly masquerade as a roast turkey? Will mashed potatoes made of meringue fool even the most discerning elf? I have my doubts, but the potential for spectacular disaster is undeniable.
Because apparently one culinary transgression isn’t enough, hosts Ree Drummond and Eddie Jackson are also throwing the latest social media trend into the mix: Christmas cookie pies. And because we all need a little extra holiday cheer (or perhaps a sugar-induced coma), these pies will be studded with chocolate chips. The combination of pie and cookie already pushes the envelope for what counts as dessert. So this “fusion” could be quite a treat or a stomach ache waiting to happen.
As always, the stakes are high. The baker who stumbles the hardest in the first round will be packing their piping bags and heading home, while the top performer gets a leg up in the next challenge. The ultimate winner walks away with $10,000 and, of course, bragging rights. Although, I’m not sure anyone who makes it through this episode unscathed could ever forget the experience.
“Christmas Cookie Challenge” airs Thursday, November 28th at 9:00 PM on Food Network.
