Candace Cameron Bure’s back. And this time, she’s not just staying put in a quaint, snow-covered town. In Great American Family’s A Christmas Less Traveled, premiering Saturday night, Bure’s character, Desi, hits the road for a sentimental journey, prompted by a message from her late father. Let’s just say, there’s a vintage truck, an audio cassette, and probably more than a few twinkling Christmas lights along the way.

Now, while the “road trip” element hints at a slight detour from the usual holiday movie formula, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This is GAF, and Bure is both starring and executive producing, so expect a healthy dose of heartwarming family themes and, of course, a dash of predictable holiday romance. Because what’s a Christmas movie without a handsome stranger in need of assistance? Enter Eric Johnson, playing the role of the aforementioned stranger, who just might spark some festive feelings in Desi’s heart.

Directed by Heather Hawthorn-Doyle, who also pulls double duty as an executive producer, A Christmas Less Traveled is penned by Justin D. James, Masey McClain, and Taylor Kalupa. Given Bure’s prominent role on both sides of the camera, it’s a safe bet this movie will carry her signature festive charm. For Bure’s loyal fanbase and GAF’s dedicated viewers, it’s likely to be a comforting and familiar Christmas treat.
