Hallmark’s reliable machine of holiday-themed heartwarmers shows no signs of slowing down this year, the latest dose of festive cheer comes in the form of Christmas on Call, debuting Friday, November 22, 2024, at 8:00 PM.
Hallmark’s feel-good flick centers on Hannah Michaels (Sara Canning), an emergency room physician, and Wes Sullivan (Ser’Darius Blain), an EMT, as they fall for each other, set against the backdrop of a hectic Philadelphia holiday season.
The movie isn’t entirely devoid of attempts to stand out in the crowded holiday market, and is sure to bring the usual blend of seasonal whimsy and big city life, setting its sights on depicting the trials and tribulations of First Responders during a time when most are unwinding. It’s a calculated move, tapping into the public’s appreciation for essential workers, while still maintaining that cozy, reassuring vibe Hallmark viewers crave.
Adding an unusual dimension to the film is the appearance of Donna Kelce, mother of NFL luminaries Travis and Jason Kelce, a bit of stunt casting to provide some buzz and curiosity. What role Kelce will play is not yet fully known.
While Donna Kelce is an intriguing addition, particularly for those following the Kelce brothers’ careers and the Taylor Swift media circus, her involvement doesn’t fundamentally alter the movie’s trajectory. It’s a light sprinkle of celebrity sparkle on an otherwise traditional holiday confection. Canning and Blain bring a certain level of chemistry, while director Jessica Harmon is experienced with this kind of material.
