Netflix is turning the classic whodunit board game into a reality competition. The streamer has greenlit Clue, an unscripted series where contestants will compete in a real-life game of deduction to solve a mystery by identifying the culprit, the location, and the weapon.
The format will require contestants to face both physical and mental challenges to gather information before the final accusation. The series will feature the game’s familiar cast of characters, including Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett, and Professor Plum. In each episode, players will attempt to solve the central crime; a correct guess adds money to the prize fund, while an incorrect one could lead to their elimination from the game.
The project is part of a larger Hasbro Entertainment effort to adapt its well-known properties for film and television. The company is also developing a Dungeons & Dragons series at Netflix, a movie based on Monopoly with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap, and a screen universe adapted from Magic: The Gathering.
The series is a co-production from Hasbro Entertainment, The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), and B17 Entertainment, both of which are part of Sony Pictures Television. Executive producers are Gabriel Marano and Zachary Edwin for Hasbro Entertainment; Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman for IPC; and Rhett Bachner and Brien Meagher for B17.
