CNN will premiere a four-part series, TV on the Edge: Moments That Shaped Our Culture, on Sunday, September 22nd, at 9 pm ET/PT, with subsequent episodes airing weekly at the same time. This original series examines the most influential television moments and their cultural significance.
Each episode focuses on a specific TV moment, from sitcoms to dramas and live events, using them to explore broader cultural themes. With new insights from those involved and commentary from various personalities, the series emphasises television’s power and its enduring influence.
The series covers a range of groundbreaking moments, including Vice President Dan Quayle’s critique of the sitcom Murphy Brown and its depiction of single motherhood, featuring a reunion of the show’s talent and creators. Another episode features the team behind Ellen DeGeneres’s sitcom and her historic coming-out episode, which drew over 40 million viewers. From Kanye West’s unexpected moment in 2005 to Oprah Winfrey’s weight loss reveal in 1988, TV on the Edge reveals television’s most memorable events.
TV on the Edge is executive produced by Eric Johnson, with Amy Entelis and Katie Hinman as executive producers for CNN Studios. The series will be available for live streaming on CNN’s platforms for pay TV subscribers and on-demand the following day.
