The Hijacking of Flight 601

In this gripping Colombian thriller series, The Hijacking of Flight 601, viewers are taken aboard a hijacked plane, where two courageous flight attendants, Edilma Pérez (Mónica Lopera) and Bárbara Gallo (Ángela Cano), join forces with the captain, Commander Richard Wilches (Christian Tappan), to outwit their assailants and navigate intense negotiations for their survival. The series premieres on Netflix on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, and presents a suspenseful narrative inspired by true events.

The series is based on the longest aerial hijacking in Latin American history, which occurred on May 30, 1973, when a SAM Colombia flight with 82-84 passengers was hijacked by two Paraguayan soccer players disguised as guerrillas. The hijacking lasted for over five days, with the plane diverting to multiple countries, including Aruba, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina.

The hijackers, armed and hooded, threaten to blow up the plane unless the Colombian government releases 50 political prisoners and pays them a hefty ransom. When the government refuses to negotiate, the aggressors start shooting one passenger per hour and force the plane to fly across Latin America. Amid the escalating horror, the crew must fight back to ensure the safe return of the hostages.
