Sky History’s “Commando Missions” transports viewers back to the heart of World War II, recreating the daring top-secret operations that helped turn the tide against the Nazis. This new series blends reenactments, archival footage, and animation to bring these stories to life with minute-by-minute detail. The premiere episode focuses on the Heraklion Operation of June 1942.
In Crete, Major Georges Bergé led a small team of commandos on a seemingly impossible mission: to infiltrate the heavily guarded Heraklion airfield and destroy the Luftwaffe’s fleet of Ju 88 bombers. Against all odds, they managed to cripple around 20 aircraft, but their escape route was compromised, leading to an act of betrayal that left the team stranded behind enemy lines.
“Commando Missions” tells the stories of highly-trained guerrilla fighters who slipped behind enemy lines to disrupt the German war machine. Subsequent episodes explore equally audacious missions, from disabling German warships in Bordeaux to sabotaging a hydroelectric plant in occupied Norway. This series offers a visceral and gripping account of WWII’s most daring raids. Catch the premiere on Sky History, Monday, April 14th at 9:00 PM.
