Adult Swim is about to unleash its latest animated oddity upon the world, and if the premise of “Common Side Effects” is any indication, it’s going to be a weird one. The pilot episode introduces us to Marshall Cuso, a man arriving in New York City with a mushroom that can apparently cure any disease or injury. That’s quite the carry-on, Marshall. One wonders if he declared it at customs.
In the city that never sleeps (and presumably never stops needing medical attention), Marshall reconnects with Frances, a former classmate now working for Reutical, a powerful pharmaceutical company. Now, call me cynical, but something tells me Reutical might not be thrilled about a miracle mushroom that threatens to render their entire business model obsolete. I’m sensing a conspiracy brewing here, one that likely involves shadowy boardrooms, hushed phone calls, and possibly some nefarious lab experiments.
Will Marshall manage to share his miracle cure with the world, or will Reutical crush his dreams (and his mushrooms) beneath the weight of their corporate greed? And just how many common side effects does this mushroom actually have? Find out when “Common Side Effects” premieres on Adult Swim on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 11:30 PM.
