BBC One’s Countryfile presents the Royal Welsh Show, which is one of Europe’s largest agricultural exhibitions. With over 7,000 livestock on display and an anticipated attendance of 250,000 people, this episode takes us to the 120th anniversary of this iconic event.
Adam Henson and Charlotte Smith lead viewers through the vibrant festivities. Adam follows a Hereford cattle farmer as he readies his cows for showing and joins the judging process for the young pig handlers competition. He also reconnects with Gareth Wyn Jones, a familiar face at the Royal Welsh, to understand the enduring appeal of this longstanding tradition.
Meanwhile, Charlotte explores the diverse array of producers and crafters showcasing their talents, from stick makers to coracle crafters. She looks at the history of the Royal Welsh and ventures into the forestry section to witness the skilled art of wood chopping. We also meet a grandmother-granddaughter duo preparing to exhibit their Shropshire sheep and there is a look at the ancient practice of farriery.
Countryfile: Royal Welsh Show airs on Sunday, 11 August 2024, at 6:00 pm on BBC One.
