For Sergeant Cath Raine, the case seems straightforward. A 52-year-old cyclist is dead, killed during a time trial on a dual carriageway, and the driver of the white van that struck her is already in custody. An arrest so soon after the incident would normally suggest a quick resolution, but the scene itself is telling a different story.
The concrete road surface offers almost no forensic clues, a frustrating blank slate for the investigators. But a single, solitary mark found at the edge of the carriageway complicates the entire narrative. It suggests the collision may not have been as clear-cut as it first appeared. Is this mark the key to proving the driver’s guilt, or could it be the one piece of evidence that exonerates him completely?
The Crash Detectives airs Tuesday October 14, at 7pm on BBC Two and BBC One Wales.
