All six episodes of thriller series Nightsleeper premiere on BBC iPlayer on 15 September 2024. The opening episode will also premiere on BBC One at 9:00 PM. The series follows a train journey from Glasgow to London that is taken over by cyber terrorists, leaving an off-duty police officer, Joe Roag (Joe Cole), and Abby Aysgarth (Alexandra Roach), an acting technical director, to team up and try to stop the train.
In this action-packed and twist-filled premiere, Joe and Abby, who have never met before, must quickly establish a bond and work together to identify and stop those behind the attack. But with limited time and resources, will they be able to avert disaster?
Episode One
The sleeper train is ‘hackjacked’, putting its passengers in grave danger as it travels from Glasgow to London. Joe Roag, an off-duty police officer, and Abby Aysgarth, the acting technical director at the National Cyber Security Centre, find themselves leading the fight to stop the train and protect those on board.
As they work to identify the perpetrators, they consider the possibility of a hostile state, a terrorist organisation, or organised crime being involved. However, they soon discover that the self-styled ‘Driver’ seems to anticipate their every move.
Episode Two
In this episode, Abby realises that she cannot rely on the transport minister, Liz Draycott, to be an effective ally in Joe’s absence. With the so-called ‘Driver’ always one step ahead, Abby must think outside the box to bring the train to a halt and prevent a potential disaster.
Episode Three
In the third episode of Nightsleeper, the stakes rise as Joe and Abby make a desperate attempt to regain control of the situation.
When Joe and Abby realise that one of the passengers may be working with the hackers, Joe struggles to identify who he can trust. Meanwhile, Abby makes a bold, last-minute decision to take the train off the mainline in an attempt to outmaneuver their attackers.
Episode Four
In the fourth episode of Nightsleeper, the situation on board the train deteriorates as the passengers turn on each other in the aftermath of a tragedy.
Abby must rally a traumatised Joe and convince him to take back control of the situation, while also dealing with Hud’s unexpected attempt to stop the train, which only puts everyone in more danger.
Episode Five
In the fifth episode of Nightsleeper, the pressure intensifies as Abby is interrogated about her past, and the passengers take matters into their own hands.
As Hud and Miller question Abby about her history, Saj sees an opportunity to become a hero and decides to try and stop the train himself. Meanwhile, Joe deals with the aftermath of the shooting and weighs following Saj’s orders against trusting his fellow passengers.
Episode Six
In the gripping finale of Nightsleeper, Abby and Joe make one last desperate attempt to stop the train before it reaches its final destination.
With time running out, Abby is convinced she knows how to halt the remaining carriages, but Joe is out of contact. As dawn breaks and the train approaches its destination, Abby and Joe must find a way to reconnect and work together to prevent a catastrophic end to their nightmarish journey.
The cast also includes Sharon Small, David Threlfall, Ruth Madeley, James Cosmo, Katie Leung, Kim Chapman and Parth Thakerar.
