Curse of Oak Island: Drilling Down – Driven to Discover

So, another run of “Curse of Oak Island” episodes is almost upon us, and “Drilling Down: Driven to Discover,” airing Tuesday, November 12th at 8/7c on History, will prep viewers for the twelfth season of the mainline treasure-hunting saga.

Will this special actually offer substantive new information? That’s always the question with these supplementary episodes. History is promoting a sit-down with Alex Lagina, Jack Begley, and host Matty Blake, where they’ll supposedly discuss this year’s “thrilling discoveries.” I’ve a feeling this will involve much dramatic recapping of previous seasons’ finds, vague pronouncements about the island’s mysteries, and perhaps a fleeting glimpse of some slightly-more-interesting-than-usual dirt.

If you’re a die-hard Oak Island aficionado, you’ll likely tune in regardless. For the casual observer, however, the appeal might be less clear. Perhaps this “Drilling Down” installment will manage to buck the trend and deliver some actual insights. Perhaps it’ll even reveal what drives these folks to keep digging after all these years. Or perhaps it’s just another hour of expertly crafted anticipation, leaving us wondering if there’s anything left to find on Oak Island besides more mud and more questions.
