Children Ruin Everything is ending with a quiet fade-out rather than a farewell. The CW has pulled the plug on the Canadian import just weeks before it was set to air its series finale.
The decision cuts short the fourth and final season, which had been airing in batches since late 2024. The network will not broadcast the remaining four episodes, effectively shelving the show before it reaches its planned conclusion.
Created by CTV and headlined by Meaghan Rath and Aaron Abrams, the parenting comedy followed a young couple fumbling their way through the chaos of raising two kids. Known for blending absurdist humor with a grounded take on modern family life, the show built a niche audience over its first three seasons.
But the fourth season never found its footing with CW viewers. The series averaged a 0.03 rating among adults 18-49 and just under 200,000 viewers per episode. Despite a June pickup for season four, the network confirmed earlier this year that there would be no season five. That left the final episodes to wrap up the series this summer, until this week’s last-minute removal.
The show aired eight episodes before pausing and returning with a trickle of new content in June. Its inconsistent rollout didn’t help momentum, and the network’s decision to air just two episodes per month signaled a cooling interest.
CW has not commented on plans for the unaired episodes although they are available for streaming on The CW website.
For fans, the sudden drop means there’s no closure on a series that struck a chord with parents juggling identity, career, and chaos. While Children Ruin Everything never made a ratings dent, it offered something quieter and more specific in a landscape dominated by high-concept comedies.
