The first episode of BBC Three’s new comedy series, Daddy Issues, introduces viewers to 24-year-old Gemma (Aimee Lou Wood), whose hedonistic lifestyle is upended by an unexpected pregnancy. After a one-night stand and a memorable joining of the mile-high club, Gemma finds herself in a situation that couldn’t have come at a worse time.

With no one else to turn to, Gemma seeks support from her father, Malcolm (David Morrissey), a kind-hearted but hapless man going through his own domestic crisis. Malcolm, reeling from the collapse of his family, is living in a bedsit for divorced men, struggling with basic tasks like boiling an egg or changing the Wi-Fi password.

Daddy Issues: Happy Tears airs on BBC Three on Thursday, 15 August 2024.
