Daniel Brocklebank is set to exit Coronation Street after more than a decade on the ITV soap, with his final episodes expected to air in 2025. Brocklebank has played Rev. Billy Mayhew since 2014, clocking nearly 1,000 episodes in a run that’s seen the character tangled in addiction, loss, and high-stakes family drama.
The move comes as ITV tightens its belt, with Brocklebank’s departure part of a wider round of cast changes reportedly tied to cost-cutting. According to UK tabloid reports, several long-running characters are being written out as the production recalibrates amid budget pressures.
Brocklebank’s exit storyline is being built around what insiders are describing as a “dramatic, issue-led” arc—standard fare for a character who’s previously battled heroin addiction, mourned the loss of husband Paul Foreman (in a high-profile motor neurone disease storyline), and once faced backlash for his role in the death of Susan Barlow.
Billy was originally introduced as a love interest for Antony Cotton’s Sean Tully, but quickly carved out his own space on the cobbles, becoming a mainstay in the soap’s ensemble and the show’s first full-time vicar.
Before his Corrie run, Brocklebank had a stint on Emmerdale and picked up film credits in projects including Shakespeare in Love. In a statement confirming his departure, the actor called his time on the show “life-changing” and “an absolute privilege.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 PM on ITV1 and streams on ITVX. A firm airdate for Billy Mayhew’s final appearance has not yet been set.
