ITV has confirmed Daniel Robinson will step up as Editor of Good Morning Britain, replacing long-time chief Neil Thompson later this year.
Robinson has been with the show since its inception, serving as Assistant Editor for seven years before being promoted to Deputy Editor in 2021. He takes full charge in September, ahead of the programme’s move from ITV Studios to ITV News at ITN in 2026.
He will now oversee the entire GMB output, including TV and digital operations. Robinson has helped shape the show’s daily agenda and helmed major event coverage such as The Queen’s Funeral, The King’s Coronation, and live programming from Ukraine, Israel and the US. Earlier this year, he launched ITV’s Oscars Live coverage as Series Producer.
His appointment continues a generational handover at the network, as Thompson shifts into a newly created post as Commissioning Editor, Breakfast News. In that role, he will support GMB’s transition into the ITN fold and work closely with ITV News Director Andrew Dagnell on future-facing content strategy.
Thompson has been at the helm of GMB since its 2014 launch, steering the show through a decade of audience growth across linear and social platforms. Under his leadership, GMB built one of the strongest digital footprints in UK news broadcasting, including 95 million TikTok views on news content last year alone.
The leadership change lands during a strong ratings run. GMB has recorded its highest share and viewing volume in four years across the first half of 2025, averaging 4.2 million viewers weekly. Its content now reaches over a million accounts a day across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Robinson will report to Laura Wilshaw, Editor of ITV News. His appointment comes as ITV deepens integration between its broadcast and digital news divisions in the lead-up to GMB’s 2026 production shift.
