HBO continues its tradition of hard-hitting documentaries with “The Dark Money Game,” a series exploring the often opaque world of campaign finance. In “Wealth of the Wicked,” the second episode, the filmmakers trace the evolution of campaign finance regulations, beginning with the creation of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) back in 1975.
The episode examines key legislative attempts to rein in the influence of money in politics, including the McCain-Feingold Bill, and the landmark Citizens United Supreme Court decision, which dramatically reshaped the landscape. It also looks at the role of religious groups, adding another dimension to the already complicated story.
“The Dark Money Game” ask where’s the line between a political donation and outright bribery? And how much influence does unlimited, undisclosed money have at the highest levels of government, even the judiciary? If you’re interested in understanding the forces shaping our political system, this is a must-watch. Tune in to HBO on Wednesday, April 16th at 9:00 PM ET/PT.
