The Vice TV documentary series, Dark Side of the ’90s, takes a look the decade’s lesser-known stories, and its latest episode focuses on Scores, a strip club with ties to organized crime.
This episode examines the relationship between Scores and the Gambino crime family, as well as the club’s role in the intersection of celebrity culture and organized crime.
Scores, a strip club that gained popularity in the 1990s, attracted celebrities and notable figures. However, this fame attracted the unwanted attention of the Gambino crime family, who began extorting the club’s owner, Michael D. Blutrich.
Michael D. Blutrich, facing pressure from the Gambinos, made a deal with federal authorities. He confessed to fraud charges in Florida and to making illicit payments to the Gambinos in New York.
Following this cooperation, reputed Gambino family members were indicted, and Scores installed a new management team. Financial troubles continued to plague the club, however, as it eventually filed for bankruptcy, burdened by significant debt.
