An upcoming episode of Dateline NBC will report on a murder in a quiet Maryland suburb that stumped investigators for 20 years. Airing Friday, October 17, “A Perfect Spring Morning” details the long road to justice after wife and mother Leslie Preer was found murdered in her Chevy Chase home.
The story begins on a spring day when Leslie Preer was discovered dead in her shower, a crime that shocked the affluent community. According to NBC News, detectives quickly identified plausible suspects in the case, but a lack of evidence brought the investigation to a halt. The case went cold, leaving the murder unsolved for two decades.
Correspondent Blayne Alexander reports on the surprising new lead that finally broke the case open and unmasked the killer years later. The program features interviews with Preer’s family, including her daughter, Lauren Preer, and her siblings. The law enforcement officials who worked the case over the years will also provide their perspective; these include Officer Jim Barnett and detectives Ed Golian, Tara Augustin, and Alyson Dupouy. Preer’s boss, Brett Reedy, is also interviewed for the two-hour special.
