Oxygen’s “Dateline: The Smoking Gun” is a new addition to the network’s “Dateline” franchise, which has seen significant success in 2024 with over 2.1 billion minutes watched across its various series. The show will debut on Thursday, October 3 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, focusing on the detailed process of evidence collection and the pursuit of justice.
Hosted by “Dateline” veteran Andrea Canning, each episode of “Dateline: The Smoking Gun” examines a different case, presenting the twists and turns that lead investigators to the critical piece of evidence, often referred to as the ‘smoking gun’. The series highlights the dedication and expertise of law enforcement as they handle false leads, wrong suspects, and dead ends to uncover the truth.
The first episode, titled “In Cold Blood”, explores the murder of Kim Dorsey, a case that initially presented a chaotic crime scene with more questions than answers. The investigation took a turn when a single out-of-place item was discovered, leading detectives to the killer’s identity.
Another episode, “Vendetta”, looks at the shocking murders of three people, including two prosecutors, in a small Texas town. The case remained a mystery until a keen-eyed investigator found a crucial clue that connected the dots.
The series also includes an episode titled “The Unusual Suspect”, where Detective Bernie Nelson hunts for a serial killer with a unique method operating in the woods. Nelson’s investigation is filled with twists as he pieces together the puzzle to identify the perpetrator.
“Dateline: The Smoking Gun” is produced by NBC News, with Liz Cole as Senior Executive Producer and Paul Ryan as Executive Producer. Andy Cashman serves as Co-Executive Producer.
