Sir David Attenborough, a voice many of us know so well from years of incredible nature documentaries, is bringing his attention to the wonders and vulnerabilities of our oceans in a new film for National Geographic. “Ocean with David Attenborough” is set to premiere on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 9:00 PM ET/PT. It’s described as a cinematic exploration of the planet’s interconnected marine ecosystems. For those who prefer to stream, the film will be available globally on Disney+ and Hulu the very next day, which is also World Oceans Day.
Drawing on his decades of experience, Attenborough helps us understand the delicate balance of life beneath the waves. He reveals not only its breathtaking beauty but also, crucially, how human activities are affecting it. The film directly addresses some tough issues, looking closely at the serious effects of destructive fishing practices, while also bringing to light hopeful stories of ocean recovery.
With insights from marine scientist Dr. Enric Sala, who founded National Geographic Pristine Seas, “Ocean” is a powerful call for us all to consider our impact and take action. To ensure its message reaches far and wide, the film will also be made available for educational use in schools, universities, museums, and libraries.
