Comedy icon Dawn French is set to star in a new British series, “Can You Keep a Secret?,” and Paramount+ has nabbed the US rights. The series, now in production, promises a healthy dose of British humor with French at the helm.
French plays Debbie Fendon, a grandmother whose fierce love for her family leads her to some outlandish actions. While her intentions are good, her extreme measures often create chaos, leaving her family wondering if they need protection from her.
The six-episode first season kicks off with a bizarre predicament. Debbie’s husband is mistakenly declared dead, and rather than correct the error, he hides in the loft. Debbie, seizing what she sees as an opportunity, hatches a wild plan to collect the life insurance. This sets in motion a chain of events that throws the entire Fendon family into disarray. Her son, Harold, and his wife, Neha, a local police officer, are unwittingly caught in the crossfire. Adding to the chaos, another family secret emerges, threatening to topple their already precarious house of cards.
Joining French in this comedic escapade are Mark Heap, Craig Roberts, and Mandip Gill. Created by Simon Mayhew-Archer, who also acts as executive producer, the series is a collaboration between CBS Studios, Big Talk Studios, and Mayhay Studios.
