On Monday’s Days of Our Lives, Salem, the epicenter of romantic chaos and poorly kept secrets, delivered another batch of relationship drama, unexpected alliances, and the kind of simmering tension that could curdle milk. Let’s unpack the wreckage, shall we?
Rafe Hernandez, bless his perpetually furrowed brow, resigned as police commissioner after Paulina Price opted to keep Jada Hunter in the top spot. Paulina, still on edge from the whole Hattie Adams debacle, even mistook Marlena for her doppelganger in a public square mix-up that was more awkward than amusing. Meanwhile, Jada, newly burdened with the weight of leadership, found herself turning to Rafe for advice, which must have felt like a particularly salty twist of the knife.
Elsewhere in the tangled web of Salem’s romantic landscape, Leo Stark, reeling from his dating disaster with Javi Hernandez, landed on Marlena Evans’ therapy couch. Turns out, Leo’s self-sabotaging tendencies are rooted in his heartbreak over Dimitri von Leuschner. A heartfelt apology to Javi, as advised by Marlena, fell flat, leaving Leo nursing his wounds (again). Javi, seemingly still harboring some feelings, nevertheless remained steadfast in his rejection, because what’s a soap opera without a good dose of romantic angst?
Then there’s the ticking time bomb that is Johnny DiMera’s secret hookup with Joy Wesley. Johnny, after sleep-talking his way into revealing the tryst to EJ, received a stern warning against confessing to Chanel. This, of course, created a delightful dilemma for our hapless Johnny.
Alex Kiriakis, inexplicably deciding to play the protector, kept mum about the affair, claiming he was shielding Chanel’s feelings. But the crackling tension between Alex and Joy didn’t escape Chanel’s notice, setting the stage for some future fireworks. And, in a brief respite from romantic turmoil, Chanel confirmed that Sweet Bits was not the source of the poisoned cupcakes.
Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on Peacock.
