On Thursday’s Days of Our Lives, Salem’s holiday season looks less than merry and bright, with mysterious texters, absent loved ones, and family reunions of the complicated sort. Ava Vitali, never one to shy away from drama (or a good scheme), finds herself on the receiving end of some unwanted digital attention. The mystery messages have her rattled enough to seek help from Steve Johnson, Salem’s resident super-sleuth. Steve, ever the pragmatist, suspects Kristen DiMera might be behind the cryptic communications, but quickly dismisses the idea. Tormenting Ava via text just doesn’t seem like Kristen’s style these days.

Meanwhile, over at the DiMera mansion, a heartwarming reunion takes place between Kristen and Lani Grant. It’s a moment of unexpected familial bliss as they catch up and share a glimpse into their lives as mothers. Of course, given this is Salem, such moments of peace are often fleeting.

Elsewhere, the Christmas spirit feels distinctly absent for Marlena Evans, who’s facing the holidays without John Black by her side. John’s off on a top-secret ISA mission, a mission that rumor has it, won’t end well for Salem’s favorite shrink. Marlena opens up to Brady Black about her worries. He’ll be spending Christmas with Rachel, but tensions with Kristen continue to simmer. The Grant and Carver families, however, seem to be having a more traditional celebration, with Abe Carver embracing the role of Santa Claus. Whether this festive cheer can spread throughout Salem, however, remains uncertain.
