History’s new series “The Death Coast” premieres this Tuesday, taking viewers on a perilous treasure hunt off the treacherous coast of Nova Scotia. Jeff MacKinnon, a third-generation shipwreck hunter, is on a quest to find the legendary Le Chameau, a French ship that went down centuries ago, carrying a king’s ransom in rare coins.

Armed with a 300-year-old map and accompanied by a world-class diving team, MacKinnon is facing more than just the usual challenges of deep-sea exploration. The Death Coast, as the name implies, is notorious for its unforgiving waters, a graveyard for over six thousand ships across centuries. And MacKinnon has a ticking clock: just 12 weeks to dive before the ocean’s fury makes it impossible. The team also contend with the recent lifting of a decade-long diving ban adding to their challenges.
