Denis Leary is heading to the Netherlands, comedically speaking, in Fox’s new single-camera comedy, Going Dutch. Leary stars as Colonel Patrick Quinn, a notoriously outspoken military man whose latest “unfiltered rant” lands him a decidedly unglamorous assignment: commanding the U.S. Army’s most inconsequential base.
Stroopsdorf, as this bastion of irrelevance is known, boasts a Michelin-star commissary, a top-tier bowling alley, and lavender-scented laundry, but notably lacks any actual weaponry or tactical purpose. Quinn, a veteran of numerous warzones, is tasked with restoring order and professionalism to this motley crew of military misfits, aided by his estranged daughter (Taylor Misiak), who served as the base’s interim leader.
The setup has the potential for classic Leary-esque humor: a gruff, no-nonsense character forced to contend with absurd circumstances and an eccentric supporting cast. Joining Leary and Misiak are Danny Pudi, Laci Mosely, and Hal Cumpston, with Joe Morton, Catherine Tate, and Dempsey Bryk in recurring roles.
Going Dutch emerges from Leary’s broadcast direct deal with Fox and is wholly owned by the network. It joins Animal Control as Fox Entertainment Studios’ second wholly owned live-action comedy. Animal Control, which has been renewed for a third season, proved a streaming hit for Fox, setting a high bar for this new Leary-led venture.
The series, created by Joel Church-Cooper (Brockmire), is executive produced by Church-Cooper, Denis Leary, and Jack Leary through their production company, Amoeba. It premieres on Fox in January 2025.
