BBC One’s DIY SOS will return this September with a new Children in Need special, heading to Cheshire for a joint build with Morning Live in support of The Joshua Tree charity.
The project marks the first time the two programmes have partnered for a Children in Need build. Nick Knowles and his regular team will be joined on-site by Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton, who will roll up their sleeves alongside local trades and volunteers to expand The Joshua Tree’s facilities in Northwich.
Founded in 2006, The Joshua Tree supports families across the UK coping with childhood cancer. Demand for its services has surged, and the existing space is no longer adequate. The new build will extend the charity’s centre, allowing it to serve more families and offer additional wellbeing support, play spaces, and therapeutic care.
The main build will take place from Tuesday, September 2 to Thursday, September 11. A trades day is scheduled for Thursday, August 7, with DIY SOS currently seeking electricians, plumbers, plasterers, and other skilled workers to take part. Companies and tradespeople are being urged to contact the production team ahead of time to register interest.
The full transformation will air as part of BBC One’s Children in Need week this November. Progress will also be tracked on Morning Live throughout September.
This is the latest in a long line of large-scale community builds delivered by DIY SOS, produced by South Shore Productions. The episode will once again spotlight the production’s ability to turn around complex charity projects in tight timeframes with the help of public and professional support.
BBC Children in Need is currently funding eight separate projects across Cheshire, valued at over £827,000. One of those supports a Children’s Support Worker at The Joshua Tree, helping reduce isolation for young people in treatment.
