Medical dramas thrive on personal and professional dilemmas, and “Doc” seems to be fully embracing the formula this week. “Secrets and Lies” finds Sonya treating someone from her past, requiring Amy’s assistance. Meanwhile, Richard grapples with a family matter that spills over into his work life, and Jake and TJ butt heads over a tricky diagnosis.
Will Sonya’s past relationship with her patient cloud her judgment? Will Richard be able to compartmentalize his personal problems, or will they affect his ability to treat patients? And what kind of ethical quandary are Jake and TJ facing? Is it a case of “do no harm” versus “quality of life”? Or something even more complicated?
I’m hoping “Secrets and Lies” avoids the usual medical drama tropes – the miraculous last-minute saves, the overly dramatic pronouncements of death – and instead focuses on the human cost of these difficult decisions. The preview hints at strained relationships and moral compromises, which suggests a more nuanced and realistic portrayal of hospital life.
“Doc” airs Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 9:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.
