Ah, Halloween. A time for costumes, candy, and apparently, contagious zombie-like illnesses on luxury cruise ships. Because nothing says “relaxing getaway” like a potential undead outbreak at sea.
This week on Doctor Odyssey, Dr Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson) has to contend with more than just seasickness and sunburn. A high-stakes costume contest is planned, which, given the clientele, probably involves more sequins and Botox than actual creativity.
But the real drama begins when a mysterious illness starts turning passengers into something resembling extras from Night of the Living Dead. One can only imagine the chaos that will ensue. Will the buffet be overrun? Will the shuffleboard tournament descend into a gruesome free-for-all? The possibilities are both terrifying and slightly intriguing.
Amidst the zombie pandemonium, Avery (Phillipa Soo) and Max are off on a rescue mission. Now, it’s unclear whether this mission is related to the aforementioned zombie situation, or if it’s just another standard medical emergency on a ship filled with people who probably consider champagne a breakfast beverage.
Either way, it’s safe to say that this Halloween cruise is turning out to be far less festive than anticipated. Let’s just hope Max packed his hazmat suit along with his stethoscope.
