It’s Halloween week on the Odyssey, and while some embrace the spooky spirit, others are haunted by more personal ghosts. Captain Massey (Don Johnson), for one, finds the festivities a stark reminder of holidays lost at sea. Meanwhile, Tristan (Sean Teale), the ship’s resident Halloween enthusiast, finds his usual costumed dominance challenged by the surprisingly game Max (Joshua Jackson).
Their twin costume reveals – first Jack Sparrow, then Poseidon – spark a playful rivalry, hinting at a potential bromance (or maybe something more?). Avery (Phillipa Soo), however, remains decidedly un-festive, struggling with the annual costume conundrum.
Amid the Halloween hijinks, medical emergencies abound. A passenger’s treasure hunt takes a terrifying turn when her arm becomes trapped under a boulder, leading to a tense rescue attempt by Max and Avery. The initial fear of amputation gives way to a clever solution involving a dislocated elbow, sparing the passenger a far more gruesome outcome.
Elsewhere, a bizarre case of blood-sweating (yes, blood-sweating is a thing) leaves Max scratching his head, while a pair of “zombie-like” passengers initially spark contagion fears, but ultimately reveal a less sinister diagnosis thanks to a crucial clue from another passenger.
Tristan’s over-the-top Halloween decorating nearly proves fatal when leaky gas lamps lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. Thankfully, the ship’s new chef, Vivian, notices his unusual behavior and alerts Max and Avery, saving Tristan from a truly spooky ending. This incident highlights Vivian’s attentiveness, leaving me hoping for more of her character in future episodes.
Overall, “Halloween Week” delivered a solid mix of holiday-themed fun and medical drama. The ongoing love triangle between Tristan, Max, and Avery took a backseat to other plotlines, but the episode still provided plenty of entertainment, from the costume contest shenanigans to the genuinely tense rescue sequence.
