Doctor Who: Unleashed is marking a milestone—and it’s pulling out the big guns. The BBC Three and BBC Cymru Wales companion series will drop a special episode Saturday, June 7, timed to the 20th anniversary of the Cardiff-era revival that redefined the franchise.
Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill—Amy and Rory to the faithful—return for the occasion, anchoring a jam-packed hour that doubles as both fan service and franchise lore refresher. Steffan Powell hosts the timey-wimey deep dive, which also ropes in Ncuti Gatwa, David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, Varada Sethu, Billie Piper, Pearl Mackie, and Mandip Gill.
Behind the camera, Steven Moffat, Chris Chibnall, and Russell T Davies are all on hand to unpack two decades of showrunning, regeneration, and the enduring magic of Welsh location shoots—what the team refers to as “Welsh gold dust.”
The episode, produced by Bright Branch Media, will also spotlight creative staples like former production designer Edward Thomas and costume designer Ray Holman, rounding out the retrospective with stories from the set.
Doctor Who: Unleashed drops early on BBC iPlayer (6:00 AM) and airs later that day on BBC One Wales and BBC Three.
