Season 4 of the popular reality show centered around Karen and Deon Derrico and their remarkable family of 16, including 14 children, with multiple sets of multiples: quintuplets, triplets, and two sets of twins. The season premiered on May 30, 2023, and delivered on its promise of highlighting “more love, fun, family, and of course, some crying moments.”
One of the central themes of the season was the family’s struggle with their living situation. Having outgrown their current home, Karen and Deon embarked on a challenging search for a new residence that could accommodate their large family. This issue was exacerbated by Deon’s OCD, which flared up due to the cramped conditions and the additional clutter from Karen’s new passion project.
The children also faced their own set of obstacles. The Derricos introduced a “screen-free summer” initiative to encourage the kids to be more active, but this led to rebellion. The twins took their first steps towards financial independence by starting their own business, learning the value of hard work. Darian, one of the older children, took on her first job at a doughnut shop, only to find the experience overwhelming.
The season also explored the impact of health issues on the family. GG, a family member, underwent traditional chemo sessions and anxiously awaited scan results to determine the status of her tumor. Dawsyn’s health was also a concern, with the family organizing a car wash fundraiser for the family of Dawsyn’s heart donor.
As the season progressed, the Derricos took a trip down memory lane to Deon’s hometown of Detroit, providing an emotional backdrop to GG’s chemo treatments. The family also braved the great outdoors on a camping trip, and Deon and Karen tackled the birds-and-bees conversation with their children.
With Thanksgiving approaching, the family faced multiple issues, including GG’s health concerns and Darian’s dance venture outside her comfort zone. The season concluded with the Derricos celebrating Eric’s birthday and continuing their search for their dream home.
