Dr. Phil ventures into the urban trenches this Friday, tackling the thorny issues of crime and accountability head-on with New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Airing at 8 PM ET on Merit Street, From the Streets to City Hall: Reclaiming Gotham’s Glory finds the daytime TV icon sitting down with Adams and Deputy Mayor Kaz Daughtry for a frank—and occasionally fiery—exchange about the state of the five boroughs.
The hour-long special skips the platitudes and goes straight for the jugular, addressing everything from juvenile crime and gang violence to systemic issues within the justice system itself. Dr. Phil and Mayor Adams also tackle the alarming rise in antisemitic attacks and rhetoric, exploring the roots of hate and its real-world fallout.
While the conversation doesn’t shy away from the city’s problems, Adams points to real progress—more than 90,000 “ghost cars” and 20,000 illegal guns seized—as proof that change is possible. At one point, the mayor draws a parallel between the city’s struggles and the fictional battles of Gotham, saying, “This is Gotham…we need to be Batman.” It’s a loaded analogy, and one that speaks to the outsized mythology—and very real dangers—that surround America’s largest metropolis.
“Dr. Phil Primetime” airs Friday, June 6 at 8:00 PM ET on Merit Street.
