Roosevelt’s newly built ranch is threatened by a powerful neighbor, the Marquis de Morés, who attempts an underhanded land grab. Roosevelt must confront the Marquis and his beguiling wife, Medora, to protect his ranch.
The episode explores the real-life struggles of Roosevelt, a young man reeling from unimaginable loss. After the tragic death of his wife and mother on the same day, Roosevelt abandons his comfortable life in New York, including his political career, and heads west. In the lawless Dakota Badlands, he establishes the Elkhorn Ranch, attempting to remake himself into a cattleman.
As Roosevelt navigates the harsh realities of life on the frontier, he encounters the dark side of human nature in the form of the Marquis de Morés. The powerful neighbor’s greed for land puts Roosevelt’s dream at risk, forcing him into a confrontation that will test his resolve.
