Theodore Roosevelt travels to Bismarck to witness the culmination of his rivalry with the Marquis de Morés, who now stands trial for murder. Roosevelt must sit in the courtroom and watch as the legal system decides the fate of his long-time adversary. His presence creates a tense atmosphere, as he must reconcile his personal animosity with his belief in the rule of law.
While the Marquis faces justice, his wife, Medora, faces a different kind of trial back in the Badlands. Her father arrives and pleads with her to leave her murderous husband and escape the cycle of violence that surrounds him. Medora is now at a crossroads, forced to choose between loyalty to the man she married and the chance for a safe future. Will she stand by the Marquis, or will she finally break free?
