Emmy-winning writer, director, and actor Pamela Adlon (Better Things, King of the Hill) is set to guest star on Elsbeth Season 2 as a celebrity chef embroiled in a murder investigation. Adlon will play Chef Z, the owner of a trendy New York restaurant where, naturally, someone turns up dead. This casting is a spicy addition to the Good Wife/ Good Fight universe, blending Adlon’s comedic talents with the series’ established legal machinations.

The episode, titled “Elsbeth Flips the Bird,” airs Thursday, November 14 at 10 PM ET/PT on CBS. It sees the perpetually offbeat Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) tackling the complicated case, alongside Captain C.W. Wagner (Wendell Pierce) and Officer Kaya Blanke (Carra Patterson). The case may also involve the resurfacing of some past missteps, adding a further wrinkle to the proceedings. Laura Benanti also returns as Elsbeth’s astute associate, Nadine, whose organized approach often clashes, yet complements, Elsbeth’s more unorthodox methods.

Adlon’s presence raises immediate questions. Will Chef Z be a red herring, or is there something more sinister simmering beneath the surface? Given Elsbeth’s penchant for the unexpected, viewers should probably anticipate some surprising twists.

Ron Underwood directed the episode, written by Sarah Beckett.

Elsbeth continues to follow the titular lawyer’s fish-out-of-water experiences in New York City. With a blend of legal procedural and character-driven comedy, the series has carved its own niche within the world established by The Good Wife and The Good Fight.
