Elsbeth: “Foiled Again” (CBS, Thursday, February 20, 2025)

Elsbeth Tascioni, that eccentric legal mind we first met in The Good Wife and The Good Fight, returns with a new case involving a most unsportsmanlike death. In “Foiled Again,” a college admissions officer meets an untimely end, and Elsbeth finds herself thrust into the world of competitive fencing and Ivy League aspirations.

The victim, it seems, wasn’t just deciding who got into college; he was also making substantial payments to a high-priced consultant. This consultant, naturally, has a child with Olympic-sized fencing dreams and even bigger Ivy League ambitions. Is it a coincidence? Elsbeth, with her unique brand of off-kilter brilliance, doesn’t believe in coincidences.

This episode presents a real test for Elsbeth. Her methods, let’s just say, aren’t exactly by the book. While effective, her unconventional approach often rubs her colleagues the wrong way. Will her unorthodox style help her uncover the truth, or will it simply add fuel to the fire? This week’s case seems tailor-made to stress-test Elsbeth’s sanity, and ours along with it.
