Former Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is set to star in a new Cold War-era spy thriller series for Peacock, titled Ponies.
The series is created by Susanna Fogel and David Iserson, with Fogel also directing. Fogel, known for The Flight Attendant and The Spy Who Dumped Me, and Iserson, who worked on Mr. Robot and New Girl, will serve as showrunners.
Ponies is set in 1977 Moscow and centres on two “PONIES” (persons of no interest in intelligence speak), Bea and Twila, who work as secretaries at the American Embassy. When their husbands are killed in the USSR, Bea and Twila find themselves drawn into the world of CIA operations. Bea, played by Clarke, is a Russian-speaking, educated child of Soviet immigrants, while Twila is a fearless and abrasive small-town girl. They seek answers about their husbands’ deaths in the dangerous world of Cold War espionage.
The executive producers are Susanna Fogel, David Iserson, Jessica Rhoades of Pacesetter Productions (Black Mirror, Station Eleven), and Emilia Clarke. The show is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, for Peacock.
