FX’s new comedy series English Teacher premieres with a double bill on Monday night, introducing viewers to the world of high school teacher Evan Marquez and his colleagues at Morrison-Hensley High.
Created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, the show follows the personal, professional, and political aspects of Evan’s life as a teacher in Austin, Texas.
In the first episode, titled “Pilot,” Evan finds himself under scrutiny when Principal Grant Moretti places him under investigation for a long-dormant incident involving his ex-boyfriend, Malcolm. Evan is instructed to abide by a single rule: no relationships with faculty. However, this proves challenging when he meets Harry, a charming new teacher who seems interested in him.
The second episode, “Powderpuff,” sees Evan bringing in an old friend to help save a school performance.
Evan is joined by a cast of colorful characters, including his best friend and history teacher, Gwen Sanders (Stephanie Koenig), who always sees the best in people. PE teacher Markie Hillridge (Sean Patton) presents a gruff exterior but possesses a keen understanding of human nature.
Principal Moretti (Enrico Colantoni) values peace above all else, often clashing with Evan’s passionate nature. Guidance Counselor Rick (Carmen Christopher) would rather be an entrepreneur than a counselor, but he enjoys spending time with his fellow teachers. And finally, there’s Evan’s ex-boyfriend, Malcolm (Jordan Firstman), a wild and free-thinking former teacher who continues to draw Evan back into his orbit.
English Teacher premieres Monday, September 2, 2024, at 10:00 PM on FX, with the first two episodes airing back-to-back.
