Discovery Channel and Max are set to premiere a gripping new limited docuseries, “Expedition From Hell: The Lost Tapes,” on Sunday, May 12, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The series tells the story of Mickey Grosman, a former special forces demolitions expert who led a group of amateur adventurers on a treacherous journey through the Amazon.
The series, which had access to over 700 hours of archival footage, reveals a stranger-than-fiction tale. Grosman, with unclear motives, positioned the expedition as a charity trek for cancer awareness. However, the journey quickly turned into a battle for survival, marked by a series of misfortunes and ineptitudes. The expedition involved kidnapping, prison escapes, and a missing person, leaving even those alongside Grosman shocked and surprised by the revelations.
“Expedition From Hell” takes us right into the heart of the terrifying obstacles faced by the participants. Howard Lee, President of Discovery Networks, shared his thoughts: “Pulled from hundreds of hours of footage, every episode of this compelling docuseries includes terrifying obstacles endured by those who chose to join the expedition. As we dug deeper to understand the motives behind those who took part in this doomed adventure, even we were surprised by what we saw.”
The two-hour premiere will unveil the rise and fall of this ill-fated adventure, providing a unique perspective on the challenges faced by the group and the questionable leadership of Grosman.
EXPEDITION FROM HELL: THE LOST TAPES is produced for Warner Bros. Discovery by Sony Pictures Television’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC) in association with Wrigley Media.
