Channel 5’s “Faking It” returns with another transformation challenge, and this time, the culinary stakes are high. Rani, a fish and chip shop owner from Sheffield, takes on the daunting task of impersonating a high-end sushi chef. Talk about a leap.
Rani admits to never having made – or even tasted – sushi before. She’s definitely out of her element, which is, of course, part of the show’s appeal. Mentoring her through this culinary crash course are Kurt and Jordan from Chotto Matte, a well-regarded London restaurant. Their training methods are a bit unconventional, including taking Rani fishing, a far cry from the deep fryer.
The episode chronicles Rani’s struggles with everything from basic knife skills to an understandable aversion to raw fish. Can she overcome her lack of confidence and culinary experience to convince a panel of experts that she’s a genuine sushi chef?
