Kembleford, the quaint village seemingly immune to the real world’s relentless march toward modernity, finds itself embroiled in a murder most foul. As the residents celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Kembleford with the kind of historical re-enactment that only the British can truly embrace, death crashes the party. And not just any death. A local historian meets his end in a manner that suggests a time-traveling assassin with a penchant for the medieval.
Father Brown, ever the amateur sleuth, must sift through a cast of characters that includes a visiting Chief Inspector’s father – making a beeline, not for the battlefield, but for Mrs. Devine. Add to the mix the clashing egos of a haughty Historical Society head, a self-proclaimed amateur historian, and a renowned (or at least self-proclaimed renowned) expert, and you have a stew of suspects simmering with resentment.
Series regulars Tom Chambers, John Burton, Claudie Blakley, and Ruby-May Martinwood return, joined by guest stars Denis Lawson, Luke Allen-Gale, Nicholas Burns, and Melissa Johns. Will the anniversary celebration turn into a memorial service? Can Father Brown uncover the culprit before the body count rivals that of the original battle?
Father Brown airs Fridays at 2:00 pm on BBC One.
