This week’s Fire Country takes us deep into Trinity National Forest, where Bode and Jake’s routine risk assessment turns into a desperate rescue mission. A rockslide has trapped Rafael, leaving the pair facing a tough choice: wait for backup or risk their own necks for a quick extraction. Naturally, they choose the latter, because that’s how things roll in Fire Country. While the rescue attempt is initially successful, Rafael later succumbs to his injuries, leading to a somber call to his wife and the bittersweet act of fulfilling his organ donation wishes.
Back at the station, Eve and Gabriela’s “Reunion Express Program” brings incarcerated fathers and their children together for some much-needed bonding time. One reunion, however, carries more weight than most. Inmate Cole faces the daunting task of reconnecting with his son, Logan, who grapples with his own personal struggles. Their interaction culminates in a powerful moment as Logan reveals he’s gay, a revelation Cole meets with touching acceptance.
Meanwhile, Walter’s dementia continues to cast a long shadow over the Leone household. A particularly poignant scene sees Walter mistake Audrey for his deceased daughter, Riley, a painful echo of Vince’s past grief. Sharon, ever the pragmatist, offers Audrey a chance to do laundry at her place in exchange for Walter-sitting duties, proving that even amidst emotional turmoil, chores must be done.
As the episode draws to a close, the Fire Country crew gathers at the Donovan family bar, offering solace and support to Bode and Jake after their ordeal.
Fire Country airs Fridays at 9/8c on CBS.
