High school rivalries and old wounds were on full display in this week’s Fire Country, as a game-day fire brought Bode and Vince face-to-face with their pasts. “My Team” wasn’t just about putting out fires; it was about confronting personal demons.
Bode’s sobriety was put to the test after a traumatic incident and the resurfacing of his high school baseball injury – the one that predated his addiction. He pushed Gabriela away, choosing to wrestle with his pain alone. Meanwhile, Vince’s run-in with his ex, Renee (Constance Zimmer), shook things up with Sharon. Renee’s bombshell – that Vince had proposed to her before Sharon – left Sharon reeling.
The fire itself, at the high school baseball field, was more than just a coincidence. It brought together Drew, the guy who caused Bode’s injury, and Nolan, a troubled kid who started the fire and ended up trapped. Jake, still dealing with Cara’s death, found a potential connection with a divorcee at the firehouse, a small ray of light in a dark time.
“My Team” delivered some hard truths. Luke called Bode out on his self-pity, reminding him that his choices, not Drew, led to his addiction and prison time. Vince reassured Sharon that Renee was a mistake, while Sharon is his real happiness, but the doubt lingered. And Drew, offering Bode painkillers, provided a chilling reminder of Bode’s past and a real test of his sobriety.
We also got a glimpse into the tough realities of Three Rock, where inmate Birch died after hiding his illness to avoid the infirmary. Nolan’s reason for starting the fire – fear of failure – added extra depth to the drama. In the end, Bode and Drew put aside their history to save Nolan, a moment of redemption in a complicated episode.
Fire Country airs Fridays at 9 PM ET on CBS.
