So, “Fire Country” is back, and Edgewater is anything but sleepy. This week’s episode, “Edgewater’s About to Get Real Cozy,” brought the heat with relationship developments, a bar brawl, and a plane crash. You know, just another Friday night in this small California town.

Let’s start with Bode (Max Thieriot) and Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila). Things are heating up between these two, or at least simmering. While their connection is undeniable, Gabriela seems hesitant to fully embrace it. She cites financial woes and personal baggage, but her dad sees right through her. He calls her out on her classic avoidance tactics, a moment that feels both familiar and frustrating for Gabriela. Thankfully, Eve’s (Jules Latimer) there to offer a friendly shoulder, reminding us of the strong female bonds at the heart of this show.

Over at Smokey’s bar, the grand reopening is marred by some predictable tension. Diego’s (Rafael de la Fuente) friends, still blaming Bode for his departure, cause a ruckus. A confrontation ensues, but it’s interrupted by a mysterious stranger who clearly knows how to handle himself. Turns out, the stranger is Camden Casey, played with a certain swagger by Jared Padalecki. He’s Bode’s new Phase Three training captain, and he’s… well, let’s just say he’s not exactly by-the-book. Showing up in Edgewater wearing a Dodgers jersey? Bold move, Casey. Very bold.

And then, because things weren’t dramatic enough, a plane crashes outside of Edgewater. Station 42, Three Rock, and the cadets scramble to the scene. The rescue operation is fraught with peril, and Casey’s unconventional, possibly reckless leadership puts everyone on edge. Jake’s already voicing concerns about Casey’s methods, hinting at a power struggle to come.

This week’s “Fire Country” delivered a solid dose of action, character development, and enough smoldering glances between Bode and Gabriela to keep fans hooked. Whether Casey’s approach to training will benefit or endanger the crew is another thing, but it’s certain to keep things interesting.

“Fire Country” airs Fridays at 9/8c on CBS.
