The BBC has released first-look images from Unforgivable, the latest drama from Jimmy McGovern, set to air later this year on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

Shot in Liverpool and centred on the Mitchell family, the series deals with the aftermath of abuse committed within the home. The images suggest a tightly wound drama built around the consequences of silence, shame, and survival.

Unforgivable is led by a heavyweight cast. Anna Friel, Anna Maxwell Martin, and David Threlfall anchor the ensemble, joined by Bobby Schofield, Austin Haynes, Mark Womack, Paddy Rowan, Phina Oruche, and newcomer Fin McParland.

The drama reunites McGovern with production house LA Productions, responsible for Broken, Care, and Anthony. Direction is handled by Julia Ford, known for her work on The Bay and Showtrial. Donna Molloy produces, with executive production from McGovern, Colin McKeown, Nawfal Faizullah, and Katherine Bond for the BBC.

McGovern’s work has always found its footing in working-class realities. Unforgivable continues that trajectory, stripping away easy redemption and focusing instead on the emotional debris left behind. The BBC has not announced a premiere date, but the series is confirmed to arrive before year’s end.
