Dave and Jenny Marrs, HGTV’s reigning renovation royalty, return with another ambitious project in this week’s “Fixer to Fabulous.” Their target: a sprawling midcentury modern home crying out for a contemporary update. Kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms will be gutted and reborn, but a nasty surprise threatens to derail the entire endeavor. It’s always something, isn’t it? A burst pipe, a rogue colony of carpenter ants, or, in this case, a hazardous discovery that could bring the whole project to a screeching halt.
The Marrs are known for their cheerful resourcefulness, but this episode will put their skills to the test. Will they find a creative workaround? Will they blow their budget trying to fix the unforeseen issue? Or will they be forced to make drastic design changes? Part of the appeal of “Fixer to Fabulous” is watching the couple’s easygoing approach to problem-solving. They manage to maintain a sense of humor even when faced with construction calamities, which is more than I can say for myself when confronted with a leaky faucet.
This season of “Fixer to Fabulous” continues the focus on revitalizing homes in small-town America, bringing a touch of modern elegance to classic structures. While the unexpected problem adds a touch of drama, the core of the show remains the Marrs’ ability to transform houses into homes.
